    Drew says:
I recommend Dollar Rent a Car. And, I recommend that you don't rent at the airport. You can take BART right from your airport terminal to Downtown SF, Powell Station, and then walk three blocks up to Dollar on O'Farrell between Taylor and Mason.

should i rent a car at san francisco airport or union square?
please tell me if its better for me to rent my car at san francisco airport and drive to our hotel in union square or should i just rent it at union square and just take a taxi or shuttle to my hotel.
    ajtheactress says:
The boiled down truth is Airport Taxes are higher, driving in The City is stressful and confusing, parking at the hotel will be expensive. Even a cab from the airport to your hotel will cost less than what it would cost you for even one 24 hour period of car rental. You need a rental car only if you have to get out of the city and you can save a lot of money and aggravation by renting your car downtown the day you need it.

San Francisco- rent a car or not?
We are going there for the first time and we have been told by a couple people who have been there that we should not bother renting a car, that it is easier/better to walk and use public transportation. Have you been there or do you live there. I live in Florida, so don't have hills or mountains or anything that's not completely flat here. :-) We are not going for awhile so hopefully it won't be rainy then.
    ajtheactress says:
The City is compact so it is easy to explore on foot and has good public transporation so there is no real need for a car. If you are staying in Union Square, Nob Hill or the Financial District DO NOT rent a car. Hills, traffic, cable cars tracks, one way streets and parking can make driving from place to place a real headache. For the price of the car rental and parking you could take cabs to.
